What changes when you convert BMP to JPG
- JPG is lossy. The Quality slider starts at 90%, which looks the same as the original for nearly every photo; lower it for a smaller file and the preview shows the new size before you download.
- BMP files are uncompressed, so the JPG will usually be a fraction of the size.
About BMP and JPG
- BMP is Windows' old uncompressed bitmap format. Files are very large for their size in pixels, and most websites, chat apps and phones won't accept them.
- JPG (also written JPEG) is the most widely supported photo format. Its lossy compression keeps photos small, but it has no transparency and loses a little detail every time it's re-saved.
Tips for Windows PC
- Nothing to install, so it works on work and school PCs where you can't add software.

Frequently asked questions
Will I lose quality converting BMP to JPG?
At the default 90% quality the difference is practically invisible. JPG is lossy, so very low quality settings will show blur or blocky edges.
Can I convert several BMP files at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like; each converts on its own, and Download all saves them in one ZIP.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser using your device's own processor, so your photos never leave your device. You can even disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded.
Where does the converted file go on my Windows PC?
Click Download. The file goes to your Downloads folder (File Explorer › Downloads).
